Just read a mistake in my previous post. You can also check your ping in most games while u aint connected to a server. In various First person shooter games there is a column for Ping on the Browse Web Servers screen. This ping is an indication of the kind of ping u can expect to achieve that server. Dont know if this rings true for non-first person shooter games.
Just remember. The lower the ping the more u will enjoy your game.
