First go for a scsi drive (with scsi card), then IDE, USB are unreliable, as data always freezes down usb. If going for a burnproof drive then IDE is ok. anything faster than 6x on IDE without burnproof can cause buffer under-runs (system dependant-varys). These DVD/CDR-W, are OK, but these drives can only read DVD not Write DVD.

Note: On non burnproof ide drives, if copying disc to disc from a copy in the first place (more so an audio copy) burning at more than 1x can cause buffer under-runs.
