Answer from Charlie: The neo 2 constantly pulses a signal into the system, which eventually starts harming the laser diode by 'hitting' it with too much voltage.(5v instead of 3.3v)
The NEO4 doesn't pulse at 5v. Apart from that NEO4 is a totally crap chip for its 44 wires an the few things it can do simply.
