it's impossible to burn a working backup unless you have a messiah mod.
if you could burn a selfbooting GS2 backup, you could burn selfbooting PS2 games too and wouldn't need a modchip in the first place.
try cleaning the cd, and make sure the dongle is seated firmly. sometimes sliding it out a little will help too.
