um.. yyyees... sounds like you might have brought some ritek TDK's.
Grab yourself CDRIdentifier - its available at CDMW under CD Utilities or something like that... Chuck the CD-R in your burner and see if the beauty's factory is TDK Corp. or Ritek co.
The light tealy-blue TDK cdr's are made by RITEK and the darker, more verbatim-coloured CDR's are made by TDK.
Data CD-R mearely means its probably not quite so great for audio, but theyres not much difference... except maybe if its a quite bad RITEK CD-R, as most RITEK CD-Rs are... but dont worry you'll be able to burn audio to them.
Their quality, however, may be debatable (if they are RITEK).
Personally I think there is some aspect of inferior quality in Ritek CD-R's. Also, if it says MADE IN TAIWAN, its a giveaway that its not going to be of the highest quality.
