The NEO2.2 has gone from being the dog's bollox of modchips because it could boot DVD-Rs (albeit by some convoluted double swap process) to being the dog's dinner that fries your laser.
Watch that one. Ensure that pin 2 is served by a capacitor and resistor to cut the voltage down from 5v at which the chip operates to 3.3v at which the PS2's circuitry fed by pin 2 works.

If your PS2 is a v5, then the NEO2.2 is a crap chip because it can't handle DVD-Rs due to changes in PS2 design.
