But to make sure you could go to Pioneer's website (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/Home/0,1398,,00.html) look up the drive and check out it's readable formats. That will tell you right away. I had the same problem last year and that was the problem.

Are you sure that your cd-rom has "multi-read" support? Multi-read enables cd-roms to read CD-RW formats. I have a LiteOn 36X Rom that i bout 1 year ago, but is won't read CD-RW cause its doesn;t have multi-read support. Mostly all cd-roms that come out today are multi-read. Hope this helped.
