I use Nero or Clone CD (alongside ClonyXL) for all my backups.
Visit psxcopyworld advice for Nero settings. Nero worked fine for most of my backups.
For CloneCD, I recommend downloading ClonyXL (available form psxcopyworld). Use this first to determine the copy protections on the original psx disc. You can then start up CloneCD with required settings directly from CLonyXL. This has never failed me yet.
