Tony, presumably the original copy (so to speak) boots up fine on your PSX.
Have you tried using ClonyXL. This reads the protections on the disc and can then send the required settings to Clone CD prior to copying. A ClonyXL download can be found on
PSXCOPYWORLD under PSX utilities.
Other than this, what brand of disc are you burning to? This might be the problem.
