I think there is a long term problem that anyone who has purchased should put back for comment to their supplier.

The central spindle (a white cone) is pushed up when the tray reaches a certain position and engages the disk. If there is mis-synchronisation through either mechanical wear and tear or lack of lubrication on the tray grooves (because of this extra work), then the spindle doesn't engage and the disk is skewed. You can hear it rattle.

Now this is my experience of our first JAP 15000 with an eject tray mod chip. We solved this with the Origachip which allows swaps to be made under EJECT button action and DVD Region X. At normal speed, engagement of the spindle is assured.

Whether or not newer PS2 designs avoid this problem, I don't know. I doubt it.
