there are 2 software for making backups cdrwin & cd clone these 2 are the best softwares but with cd clone IT AS TO BE 100% compatible with your writer & with cdrwin you need a prog called pff-o-matic this is for patching games which are protected here some links which will help you

as for the mod chip & boot disc you need one of these to play a copy game ( best way is with a fitted mod chip in the psx) the boot disc (which CAN NOT be a copy) is what you put in so your psx thinks it as a mod chip (so you start your psx up with the boot disc in and swap it a copy game ) i've never done it this way
