Exactly... you should never patch/update a game with modified exe or other files!!!!!!!!
So in this case: install the sims... do not apply any patches or any other modifications... install Livin Large. Now once that is done, save a backup of all files that will be replaced by the crack. Then overwrite the files with the crack file(s), now it should work.
