That depends on a few things. 1) what kind of burner do you have? (Acer, phillips, etc.) 2) what kind of copy protection does the game have.

First find out what protection the game has. get a program like copyprotectiondetection or a similar one to detect the protection.

The toughest copy protection I have had to deal with was safedisk2, but I've heard there are new, tougher ones out there now.

Second, the burner you have could be the reason for not being able to back it up. Some burners are better at reading subchannel data and some are better at burning subchannel data. Go to the Clone CD site and find their recommended list of burners.

I use an older Sony burner to copy the game and use a new Acer burner to burn a new disk. This has worked for every game I've tried to backup so far.

Clone CD does a bit for bit copy of the game disk, so putting it on the hard disk, I would think wouldn't make much difference. I could be wrong tho.
