Are you saying you have the original CDs and are having lockup problems? If not, then if its the 'FADE' issue, you will get a message saying "Original Games don't Fade".
A friend's machine pauses/locks up tight for several seconds, due to hard disk activity. I noticed this only during multiplayer however. It is very occasional, but consistent ( If that makes sense
