As stan says, using PC patches is easier than PSX.
Most are simply replacement .exe files with the protection #####s removed, and you simply copy them over the original .exe in the directory the game is installed to.
If the games .exe is visable on the CD, i.e. not in a cab file, you can copy the CD`s contents to a temp directory on your HD, then replace the .exe file with the cracked one, and then just burn the contents of the temp directory to CDR. Make sure you name the CDR the same as the original disc though.
You also need to make sure that the crack version matches the release version of the game, most games will display this on the title/menu screen, if not ##### the readme/help file.
CloneCD does make things much easier though, and can copy all current copy protections, however when copying safedisc 2 protected games there are only a few burners (mainly phillips) which are able to produce working copies. Blindread/write also claims to be able to copy some copy protections but it`s never worked for me.
