I think this is normal. Cracks as in "software patches that allow you to play games without the original media that can be easily damaged (and replacement is not easy)" are getting obsolete because:
- New games are released in digital form, there's no media that can get damaged. (Other than the site, hosting the digital form, being switched off.)
- Good old games are re-released on GOG, without copy protection.
The only problem is if you have an old game for which no crack was released because:
- the game is such low quality; or
- the copy protection is so sophisticated.
Of course, having a package (CD/DVD/digital download + crack) that noone can take away from you is comfortable but game publishers never cared about the end user anyway.
