Yes there are exceptions. Steam's library of games is a lot bigger than it used to be, Steam never used to accept NON Steam games, now it does.
Going right back to when I started here 'most' games needed a Crack to play from the Backup. Some games depending on the Protection used could be played from creating a Mini Image from the Original Disc.
One game I purchased, (really can not remember the name of that game right now) needed the Disc in the Drive to play .. but searching the Disc I realised it came with the 'NoCD Crack' already on the disc, the developers were using a Cracked exe to test the game ... they accidentally left that Crack on the Disc! So they paid heaps of money for a Protection then wasted that money by including the Crack for us.

My main point was, it is ok to talk about Cracks as they are sometimes needed to play your backup and Fileforums is about creating a Backup which can be successfully played without needing the Original Disc to actually play.
