Firstly your on the right track!!
the software's that i use for copying psx games is cdrwin and clone-cd(if your writers fully compatable).
I use cdrwin if there is a patch avaible for the game. Simply burn to image file then apply the patch then burn to cdr.
On the other hand i use clone-cd if there is no patch avaible for the game.

follow these instructions below and you wont go far wrong!!!!

RECORDING WITH CDRWIN
1. Open cdrwin & press the "extract disc/sectors" icon (3rdbutton)
2. Tick the "disc image/cuesheet" command at the top
3. In the empty "image file name" box write your file name
4. Highlight these settings
(I) reading option "raw"
(II) error recovery "ignore"
(III) jitter correction "disable"
(IV) subcode analysis "auto"
(V) data &audio speed "max"
(VI) read retry "10"
5. Now press start.
6. When the recording process has finished insert your blank cd
7. Close the screen & get back to the cdrwin options
8. Press the first button "record disc"
9. Make sure your cd recorder is highlighted in the "cdrom recorder"box
10. Now press the "load cuesheet" button
11. Another box will now have appeared so click on the file which says .cue & press "open" to load the .cue sheet

PPF PATCH INSTRUCTIONS
1. Open a new folder in drive C:\ and name it psx_image
2. Start cdrwin & cick on Extract disc/sector
3. Choose your psx_image folder as the destination for the image, name
the image file psx.bin (you must make it a bin file) It will read thus:
C:\psx_image\psx.bin
4. Use the following settings;
I Error recovery --------Ignore
II Jitter correction ------Disable
III Subcode analysis ---Auto
IV Retry ------------------- 10
VI Read option -----------Raw
5. When you have extracted the game to you folder you will have 2 files
inside, psx.bin & psx.cue
6. Now unzip the patch to your folder ( C:\psx_image ).
7. Once the patch is unzipped run ppf o-matic
8. Enter the path to you ppf file & .bin file & press ok
9. You should get a message telling you the game has been patched ok
10. Open cdrwin again & click on "record disc"
11. Click on load cuesheet, select your psx.cue & hit open (alternatively double click the psx.cue file )
12. Finally, press the start record icon !!!
That`s it simply burn game at x2 speed (or higher if your burners up to the task)
Hey-presto.....one patched & fully working game
