I'm no rookie when it comes to burning but 1st PSX backup attempt is a no go!

Ok, I've been burning for years. Have all the cd burning programs and know how to use them. A buddy of mine has FIFA 2000 (PSX1) and I attempted a backup for the hell of it. He's modchipped his PSX2 (not sure which chip at the moment). Read a whole whack of tutorials first on how to burn. I used CDRWin v3.8a (with keygen) to image (bin/cue) the sucker to the drive. Made sure it was in raw format. Read it at 2x speed. CD Reader was an ASUS CD-S500/A, the burner is a HP 9350i. Looked up whether FIFA 2000 needed any patches, couldn't find one. Saw that FIFA 2000 was on a list of "unprotected games" in the U.K. and made the assumption it was the same for the U.S. NTSC version and simply burned it to a Maxell Gold blank using CDRWin at 2x speed with no problems. Tried it in his PSX2 (holding down the reset button as instructed by a tutorial at modchip.com) but no-go. Tried to read up on what could be the problem, but can't find a definite answer. All I came up with is that maybe I should have used either Memorex or Verbatim or maybe I should have used an earlier version of CDRWin as I heard that the version I have is protected like hell and even though my keygen said it was now fully functional, maybe it did something to the bin?!

Also, I bin/cue'd NHL 2001 (PSX2) in the same manner and applied a PPF patch to it (which worked) and it's ready to be burned to a blank, but I thought I'd hold off until I hear your thoughts. I do know that he has to use a Gameshark to make the PSX2 backups work, but according to everything I've read so far, its not needed for PSX1 and thus FIFA 2000 should have worked.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions, anyone?

Thanks!
