The burning details are as follows -
I am using a Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-115 12X
I am using a Matshita CD-RW CW-7586 8X4X32X
I am using a PAL version of Dave Mirra
And the CDRwin version i was using was version 4.0a beta, but i have just got 3.8f. Will this version work better?
Thanks

First off, I would try with 3.8f. It's fine for burning, it's just a bit quirky on my PC in that it lurks after being closed and prevents my ISDN connexion from working. So I reverted to 3.8D.
Second, I've been unable to fix for certain the suitability of your reading/burning kit. I was looking for CD-G support on both devices as that handles all cases of sub-channel data. I'm not sure as to whether Dave Mirra requires this stuff. So I recommend that you download CLONYXL (search the web on that key); put the CD in the 7586 and get CLONYXL to scan the CD. (ClonyXL won't recognise the DVD-ROM). It will tell you on the botton quadrant what CloneCD paramaters should be used for the CD. If cloneCD accepts thos paramaters, reading from/writing to the 7586, with "Don't repair sub-channel data" checked, then the game should work. So ...
Third, if the first step above doesn't work try the following with CloneCD:
1 Take the disk image to your hard drive. This will produce a CCD file (describing the CD structure); an IMG file (containing the CD image); a SUB file (containing sub-channel data).
2 Rename the IMG file to *.BIN and apply the Universal or ASA Patcher to the BIN image.
3 Rename the BIN file back to IMG and use CloneCD to burn the whole lot back to CD-R. Check "Don't repair sub-channel data".
I know this works on my equipment.
