the filename in your FINAL brink.arc should show 'pak000.sdpk2'

Then you MAY be doing something wrong..... my brink folder has NEVER gotten over 6G, even with all updates
EDIT: ooops, my bad I forgot I deleted all the non-english files, but that still only amounts to ~100MB
