not true. there is a knife/cog swap for ps2 that works WITHOUT a modchip, i should know i do it all the time with my backups. you snap the front cover off the tray with a nice flathead screw driver, becareful not to snap the clips. look striaght into the console with the tray in, a maglight helps. you'll see a little tiny white pin, on my cosonle its right under a green mark where the PS symbol used to be. you can slide it right to release the tray, and left to lock the CD in place. practice a few times with something soft and long and thin (sounds sick huh) well i use a plastic butter knife, the teeth on the knife catch nicely. You need a GS2 or AR2 v1.0-1.3 and not a version 4 ps2. now v1.3 works best and most games don't even require a patch. boot up the gs2, go to start game without codes, now the swap, do NOT hit eject, slide the pin all the way to the right, pull out the tray out, put in the backup, push tray in, slide the pin all the way to the left, be gentle yet firm... (also sounds sick). now hit X and it should boot. go here for a list of compatible games. don't ask me anything more thats all you need to know.

Great websites guys, I claim NO responsiblity for the websites, or what you do to your ps2, only use it for backups and support the game makers!!!
-there ya go, i'm a little drunk so thats as good as it gets.
