Personally, I don't think it's that bad. Most people will have an internet connection, and most will have it most of the time for that matter. If you lose connection, you won't lose your progress. On resuming you will start off exactly where you left off. Go play another game in the mean time or do something else. It's very unobstrusive in that the Ubisoft game launcher only actually launches when you go to play. No background services/programs or any other system-level changes are required.

You can save your games locally as well as the default method of online saving, despite common opinion. Yes, you still need to be connected to the web, but the option is there, even if it seems a bit redundant. I reckon this is much better than their old methods of limited-activations and SecuROM-style DRM means.

I think having weighed it up, I'd much rather just let it check an account over the web, as opposed to having to put a disc in as well. For one thing it's just so much quicker and easier. One less thing to think about. What annoys me is when people complain about something when not having even experienced it first-hand. So at least get it and test it before forming an opinion. I'm certainly in agreement with Tip there. And I can certainly understand Ubi better wanting to protect the software they publish. You can clearly see why they are trying this, with disc-based protections completely failing and PC-piracy rife. Props to them for trying new methods unlike some companies.
