If you're like me you don't like to have large files that are rarely used sitting in your hard drive, so I'd like to just add another 2xDVD5 method that allows you to fit all the patches onto the first disc. Note that this removes all non-English language files and is only for the UK edition of the game because that's what I have.
- Follow this guide to remove JUST the non-English language files but leave the bonus movies, unlockables, PhysX, etc. since you need 2 discs anyway if you want to fit the patches. Make sure that you do NOT dummy the following files or else the game will not work:
Quote:
Ava_Pes_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
Hus_M1_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
Mar_Nij_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
Nep_Azv_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
Var_Fac_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
Var_Flk_SFX_ASync_ITA.xxx
|
An easy way to dummy those foreign language files is to move those 6 files to a new temp folder, search the "CookedPC" folder for "_DEU", "_FRA", "_ITA" and "_SPA" files, dummy them all and move the 6 files back into the folder. Then you can safely repack the cabs.
This should reduce the disc size to around 5GB. All credits go to Nicolo.
- Then convert to 2xDVD5 as per the first post in this thread EXCEPT edit autorun.dat so that DiskId 22 to 28 say "Disk 2" (instead of 23 to 28) and put Content5.cab on the second disc rather than the first. All credits go to BarryB.
Optional sections:
- When editing "autorun.dat" go to the "Error" section under "Tables", scroll down to "1302" under "Error" on the right pane and change "Message" to something like "Please insert next disc." This will change the text on the disc prompt.
- Edit "autorun.inf" on the first disc, under the "[autorun]" section add:
Edit "autorun.inf" on the second disc, under the "[autorun]" section add:
This just looks a lot better when you have the disc in the drive.
- In the "Support" folder on the first disk, edit "localization.inf" with Notepad so that it says this:

This will remove all the foreign languages and only leave English on the autorun menu. Since we've dummied all the foreign language files the game won't work if you install in another language.
You might be wondering about this:
Quote:
[LOCALES]
en-uk=1
en-us=0

I found that for some reason if you have just "en-uk=1", all the text in the DirectX installation step goes missing. You actually need to have another language there for the text to remain, but anything other than "en-us=0" would show the language on the autorun menu. Also if you have "en-us=1" the autorun menu shows just English but the installer defaults to the US version and tries to install that, which doesn't work on the UK game because of the different cab names.
- In the "Support" folder on the first disc you can delete all the text files except "readme.en-uk.txt". Do NOT delete "localization.inf"! In the "EA Help" folder there are many folders corresponding to their respective languages. You may dummy all the files in those folders (leave the "en-uk" and "en-us" folders alone just in case) for a saving of 5MB of space when the game is installed.

This will leave you with a disc 1 of size 1.76GB and disc 2 3.28GB. Plenty of room to add the 1.2 (1.3GB) and 1.3 (1.05GB) patches (as well as your serial and a crack if you want) onto the first disc and leave you with a final size of 4.11GB. The install method is disc 1,2,1.
I recommend you test before burning, but it worked a treat for me. The final install size is 2.25GB smaller too (6.18GB), since the original game installs
EVERY language onto your hard drive no matter which one you chose.
EDIT: Okay, I only just tested this again and it seems the patches can't update the modified English-only installation. Therefore this method is fine for single player-only installations and if you want to play online you'll need to install from your original disc.
