As an alternative, if you have Baldur's Gate 2, you can use either the
Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod or
Tutu to run BG1 using the more advanced BG2 engine (BGT combines BG1 and 2 into a single epic adventure, Tutu imports BG1 data into BG2 - you still need to import/export your character between BG1 and 2).
The
Widescreen Mod can also be used to run BG1 and 2 at higher resolutions.
