also try scanning in safe mode...
i also tried avast anti vir i think when i had a similar (fucking malware) issue on my laptop, one day it stayed at 100% cpu, even in safe mode, and the only thing that saved my ass was the avast scanning before windows loaded like scandisk does.. which was a damned nice feature...
