Hi kidace, acording to the info i have read nobody has been able to ger dvdr backups to work as the dvd key claims to support them. sniperkilla really screwed us as well as himself and PS2ownz.com as the forum boards may be down permanent. I was a member there before coming to this forum and to be honest this forums members seems to be a little more advanced than theirs, They still believe error recovery should be set to ignor lol, but anyway when i got my gameshark2 it had v1.9 stamped on the back of the box, i got it at a local wallmart store. i would think all would have some kind of mark somewhere to identify what version it is... good luck kidace.
