This must be some communication problem between the drive and the operating system because of faulty motherboard, IDE/S-ATA cable, driver, DMA settings, other OS settings, whatever... (The operating system is notified about a new media having been inserted into the drive and the OS desperately tries to get some information about the media once the drive finished processing it... in vain.) Try these.
