Uhm, okay, and how do I see whether it found the CD or not?
I launched the EXE in itself under DOSBox and received the following long error message on the screen (standard output) as well as logged into a file called ERROR.$$$:

Wolna pamiec: 13459456[dpmi] 6892[system]
Errno: No such file or directory [1]
Prawdopodobna przyczyna bledu:
- brak wolnej pamieci [wymagane 32MB]
- brak miejsca na dysku twardym [wymagane 48MB]
- za duzo otwartych plikow [wymagane FILES=16]
- brakujace lub uszkodzone pliki gry [nalezy zainstalowac gre na nowo]
- brak CD PYL
Do I understand correctly: this is a critical error, the game couldn't open that file and suggests to make more memory, increase the FILES setting, reinstall the game, or insert the PYL CD? (Nope, I don't understand Polish and the last time I studied Russian was also more than a decade ago...
)
