I made an image of the DVD with Alcohol 120% (v1.9.5.2802) with DPM set to "High" and with read speed "1x", mounted with Daemon Tools (v4.08HE/SPTD v1.39), virtual drives hidden with Y.A.S.U. (v1.07) and it's running without a flaw.
If you get an error message that you have to "put the original disc in the drive instead of a backup" then you're image isn't correct, i.e. DPM information is either missing or not properly. Create a new one with Alcohol 120% or CloneDVD or try the one from GameCopyWorld. Some people were reporting that you have to install the newest SPTD driver which is not yet included in Daemon Tools. From my experience it's not recommended as it's most likely not working with TDU.
In case you get the error message that there is "a problem with emulation software" then again there's something wrong with your image or try uninstalling all programs (except Daemon Tools of course) that create a virtual CD/DVD drive, for example Alcohol 120% or Virtual CD. In most cases the problem can be easily solved by uninstalling Blindwrite which is blacklisted by the newest SecuROM version. Test Drive Unlimited then should work with a backup image.
