You can, but you'll need to place the current drive's key into the new drive BEFORE you flash it so your XBOX can recognise it.

The Samsung drives need to be done properly first time, or else you'll lose your key - and then you have a nice 360 shaped paper weight and DVD player

If you can't find another drive and are worried about hosing your drive, why not send it to someone who can do the service for you?
