secufix ??? i googled for that name, but nothing popped up (maybe i'm blind)
ok, here's the gist (full version here:
http://www.ultimate-eaw.com/componen...79/topic,589.0)
of my problem:
i've EAW since it came out (even the Special Ed version w. the fancy litle plastic eathstar

).
Everything worked peachy for months. about 2 weeks ago, i found that Ultimate EAW mode (under the URL above), a nice, canon-compliant Mod. It dosent make changes to the exec/DLL's at all, it only adds XML, LUA-scripts and 3D-art/soundFX files and starts it up w. a command-switch like "\\Empire at War\GameData\sweaw.exe" MODPATH=Mods\UEAW_v3_2_2" thats it. The mod ran fine, no crashes no glitches - even worked fine w. the trainer (ya, i know, i cheat :P)
last FRI it just quit starting up via the usual desktop-shortcut, then i worked around that (being lazy as i am) and i started it via CMD/RUN-line. Worked about two times.
since then, nada, nichts, nothing!
Not even a fracking error-code/-msg! If the disc is NOT in the drive it was installed from, i get the usual error "ENTER DISC - RETRY/CANCEL". If the disc is in the drive, the mouse-cursor changes for ~500ms to "SYSTEM OCCUPIED" (which is arrow w. sandclock, opposed to SYSTEM BUSY for sandclock-only display) and thats it. Not even the CPU-load jumps beyond 20%.
So i uninstall the UEAW-mod. Zero results
So i uninstall the whole EAW, reinstall EAW, apply lastest patch (v1.05) reinstall mod. Zero results.
uninstall everything again, reinstall just EAW+patches. Zero results.
knowing SOME of the computer junk, it appeared to me that SecuROM v7 must be screwing up SOMEWHERE, since the disc authentication dosent kick in since the drive dosent spin-up to try to find the disc!
Even the registry entries of the game are fine/correct (path, installed Y/N, CD-path, installed-path, patch-versioning)
since it was (Murphy again) long "LaborDay weekend" in the USA, i had to wait till TUE.
So am calling LucasArts support-line......[mirror-mirror on the wall who waited the longest of them all?]......oh miracle, am NOT talking to "Joe" in Bangladesh, India - a real american

(sorry, couldnt resist).
after a long forth and back, me actually telling HIM how the games "inner workings" proceeds in the startup, checking w. registry entries, and teaching him a thing or two about SecuROM's "pain-in-my-ass functions", and mutually realizing that i do NOT have the "GENERATE REPORT"option have in the context-menu (rightclick) of the EAW-main exec; he plainly states that he cant help me, since LucasArts JUST *licences* their technology from SecuRom corp. and that i'm suppose to call them, and then he wished me happily a great day since he finally found a way to get rid of me, since he couldnt help me.
So am calling SecuROM corp...voicebox..."leave email and state your problem" - frack you! i think....
so am digging through my box myself. Finding out that securom is a service. Strangely the service is "off" (manual + not started) manually starting fails w. "no device or servicess associated/attached to this service" even though the USSecuACCESS7.exe in the \\win\system32\ dir was present.
Killing then the service w. "SC DELETE MYACCESS7" command (yes, i run XPpro+SP2), making sure its gone by checking device-manager via "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", and via "tasklist /svc" command.
then killing out the respective drivers out of the HKCR\exefile\shellex in the registry (namely the cmdlineext0X.dll entries and associated files).
DAEMON and my KASPERSKY A/V had been temporarily turned off to get it started up.
but NADA still!!!
I also tried the KRKsecurom loader v1.2 (asr.exe -r Games\Main.exe) but still nothing.
*at end of my wisdom*
any ideas?
and no, my box is 100% virus-free. other games (like CivCity ROME, or City of Villains or SPELLFORCE 2 to name a couple modern ones) run perfectly fine.
cheers

PS: Joe forster: like my tag-line "move *.COM; *.GOV >NUL" better now ?

it was/is ment about to get rid of all the "establishments" in corporate/govermental means that (sort of) screw us over as it's going on today (keywords AT&T+NSA, Bush+eavesdropping, Katrina+FEMA and more).
