Slim or "First Generation"?
Greetings.
After 4 years of loyal service, my V7 has finally shown signs of giving up, such as the dreaded "grinding-gears" noise during loading. While I will be fixing it for use as a backup, I plan to buy a new console for regular use.
My question is: should I buy the slim version or the 1st generation type?
I've heard that the slim versions have stronger lasers. They're also said to be more hardy and robust due to the fact that the slim version no longer use a disc tray for insertion, thus erasing unnecessary wear and tear (well, it does make sense--my PSX is still live and kicking this very day).
In short, should I get the slim console or the 1st generation type? Also, which batches are the best quality (i.e. the V7 having the most reliable laser among the 1st-gen's.)
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
BTW, when is Sony releasing the PS3 for sale in the U.S. and Europe?
Thanks in advance!
