I have the same problem!!!
Civilization 4 will not accept the DVD when patch 1.52 or 1.61 is installed.
With patch 1.09 it works just fine.
The support just says take out the current cd-rom and insert cd-rom 1. Good work for a game that is on DVD
So i'm also waiting for a noDVD patch for version 1.61.
