Its really hard to say man. We're talking about two different consoles here. Naturally there going to load games a little differently. Its also not unusual for different consoles to react differently to the same media. As a example some consoles may love Sony CD-r's while others refuse to load them. No two lasers are adjusted exactly the same. If you've tried different media and software with the same result then maybe the PSX's laser is getting weak
its hard to say. I really dont think its the burner or the 8x speed.
