I used to get errors when using v2.x. I now use v3.00.755-FTU with the same pc setup.
Is this the version you're using?
Perhaps your writer just ins't compatible. Many have trouble with DJ.
One other program you could try is CloneCD (I use v2.7.8.1). Most self-booters have copied, but a few have a nasty time lag before the Sega logo appears. After that they load normal.
