Fargin Laser adjustment.

Some of you may or may not be aware of the struggle I'm having with one of my best buds PS2's. Here's a short version.
  1. Friend lends PS2 to his girlfriend for a DVD player. (It's a V10)
  2. One coil goes almost completely dead. (rates like a 1.8 or something)
  3. I mod it with a crystal chip and romeo mod the la chip.
  4. I adjust the white cogs till the thing is almost to the disc itself, crank up the laser and let him know it's gonna die soon.
  5. Laser dies, gets a replacement. I install it, can't get white cogs back to a position where it should read reliably.

Anyone have a starting point or tips as to how to adjust these damn cogs? It only had a problem when it's reading the very outside of the disc, which is unfortunately where most games store their FMV's or DVD tracks.
