They obviously ****ed somthing up in 1.01, but they won't admit it, still maintaining that it's somthing at my end which is wrong even though it worked before the patch and doesn't after.

Anyone know a surefire way of actually playing the game that I've paid for, short of using a nodvd patch (which I'm not too keen on since I want to play it online as well).

thanks in advance.
I've got exactly the same problem with a Samsung DVD-writer. Bought the game last friday and installed it without a problem. Started it up for the first time and got a message saying that an update was available and if I would like to have it installed. Sure, why not? The update was downloaded and installed without a problem and I played for a while. No problems so far.

However, with the next reboot my DVD drive tried to access the FEAR DVD and just kept spinning and spinning. Ejected the CD and inserted it again. Still the same problem. DVD drive tries to access the DVD over and over again, without being able to read it for some strange reason. The DVD cannot be damaged, because it did install without any problem and hasn't left the drive until the problem started to occur.

In the end I just installed a no-DVD crack. Not happy about that, but I want to play the game I paid for.
