Sorry, yeah, you're right, I forgot about the two different kinds of CAB's: M$ and InstallShield...
By the way, I do it similarly but I don't bother with creating an installation tool. I just change the registry entries so that they point to the current directory (single dot), test if the game runs (if not, hack it
) and then archive the whole thing with RAR.
