yeah you can back up GT4 on DVD+r DL but you should patch it first.
also you can rip it to dvd5, so you can burn it on DVD-R. for rip kit goto

I think run the game with dvd-r put less stress on your laser.
I play it with hdloader and never tried the above methods.
