DVD's are the ones to use, mostly both DVD+r and DVD-r will do. But DVD-r will have the biggest compatibility, as for me any backuped game on a DVD+r will hang during startup but it does not happen when using DVD-r.
You could of course try both and see which one gives you the best result.
