I had this done to me once.

I have 3 drives = a Plextor Premium CD burner, an LG DRD-8160B DVD-ROM and a Lite-On 832S DVD-/+RW

I always read the image from the LG and burn with the Lite-On. I believe the game I had this happen to me with was Brian Lara 2005. When I put the disc into my PS2, it would boot and stay black.

So, Instead of using the LG, I put the PS2 disc in the Lite-On and read the image off on that and then burned. The disc then booted. Upon closer inspection, the first copy had only half the burned data on the disc.

So, my advice to you is, if you have any other DVD-ROM drives, try re-imaging with one of those.

If not, then try using DVD Decrypter as it's free and does a perfect job for PS2 games. That is what I did and viola! things worked perfectly.

So, in short, just try making a new image with DVD-Decrypter.

Hope this helps...
