Firstly, im assuming that you are using something to hold down the 'cd-spinning' button, be it a toothpick, which i used back in the day lol wedged on the lid of the PSX and the button, or some adhesive like 'blue-tak'.

Multi-disc games have 2 mechanisms of switching discs, and you will notice this when you open up the lid of your playstation when required to switch discs, with the 'cd-spinning' button de-pressed. Some games stop the disc spinning and then prompt you to change discs. The problem here is, with the button depressed, the PSX doesn't not actually know when you have switched discs. It assumes that the lid is still closed. When I faced this similar problem [im playing original multi-disc games] I tried to remove the adhesive and let the playstation stand for a while, with the lid open, for the button to pop back up, change discs and then close the lid. Then my game worked.

Some games will stop the disc spinning, as a playstation does, when the button has been popped back up. Again, you have to make the button pop up, either by removing the adhesive, or waiting.

It took me some time but now i have just enough adhesive to ensure I can perform the swap trick as well as switch discs in multi disc games [i have to wait around 30 seconds].

I hope this is understandable, as this explanation is much easier in person than on a forum.

Keep us posted on the problem.
