So, that's good news and another challenge. In these cases, we'd need to know the error that was reported and the burning speed you were using (it was 1x wasn't it with a demo copy). Also, how is the burner connected to the PC? On the primary IDE channel or the secondary?
Generally, burning errors are caused by buffer under-run or burning too fast on crap media. So what else was running on the PC? Or was the burner sharing the IDE channel with the HDD?
There is no burning error that necessitates patching. That depends on the game and its behaviour on the PS2, which it hasn't yet reached.
Patching:
1) HOW?
ANSWER: Tutorials on www.ps2ownz.com & www.psxcopyworld.co.uk
2)clone/cdrwin?
ANSWER: For patching - CDRWin. But change your burner and use CloneCD
3)how do you know which patch to apply?
ANSWER: By reference to the databases on ps2ownz or megagames
4)how do you know which games need patching?
ANSWER: Ditto to (3)
5)is it true you carnt make backups with dvd-rom on them?
DVD games can be copied to produce backups using Primo DVD that boot with the NEO2.2 chip
