The law doesn't expect software publishers to allow you to
easily make backups of the original software you purchased from them. (I'm not sure how it is phrased, though: if A) "publisher must allow easy backing up" is not mentioned in the law or B) "publisher does not need to allow easy backing up" is explicitly mentioned. I would vote for A) but, for the result, that doesn't really matter anyway...)
