But the word contract is there buddy, what is a contract? Its an agreement of both parties yourself and the developer/publisher.
And the only time you agree to this contract is by agreeing to the EULA before installing, if in the EULA it states sure you can backup the game then great, but if they say no to any backup then you cant.
I dont think publishers would be happy to release games in any countries were the laws allow anyone to backup their software even if they say you cannot.
Also the "before getting on your high/mighty horse and start waving your flag about" is a figure of speech, it means dont act high and mighty, and nothing to do with nationality.
