I don't know GYPPLAY but something you said needs some clarification...
Movies (such as VCD) are not MPEG
layer 1. They are
MPEG 1 or MPEG version 1. Audio files such as MP3 are actually
MPEG 1, layer 3.
AVI does not use MPEG 1, Layer 3 for audio encoding. AVI stands for "Audio-Video Interleave" and as such, is a Microsoft format (not MPEG) that mixes the video stream and audio stream together into one file.
Now, if you want to convert AVI files to MPEG 1, you'll have to search the web for a utility that converts them. You might be able to find some useful information by searching the
CD/DVD Software & Utilities or
DVD Backup Forum message forums on this board.
