Dreamcast Dead Time

I noticed this right after I burned The Ring and played it, it got about 5 minutes into the game and it went black loaded the music and just sat there, the music was still playing, but no activity from the DC. I left it there for ten minutes, music still playing and finally I killed the power. Now it does that to all the CDs I put in there, they will just stop after a little use. So I cracked open the unit and used a can of compressed air to blow all the dust away from the lens and other components that the little hose could reach. That temporarily fixed it and let me get a little farther in The Ring before locking up again. I've done everything except open up the GD-ROM housing to ##### that out. I have noticed after the game will lock up and I've killed the power, I would run my finger just above the lens, the heat I felt was red hot. So hot in fact I couldn't keep my finger there for more than three seconds and I'm used to pressing my finger onto heatsinks when the CPU below it is cooking at 131 degrees Farenheit. Is this a common problem, what's the fix for it? I have thought up something, perhaps mounting a 60mm or 90mm case fan on the top of the lid and drill some airholes to provide plenty of cool air to the lens.
