I wouldn't know if the v2 mess up like the v1, but there is the obvious difference in the size and looks of the controllers between the v1 and v2..... If the v1 is busted, you might as well replace it with the v2. I'd rather get the v2 than a normal sony controller or something b/c of the wireless ability (duh), but I wouldn't go with the other 3rd party brands. Only b/c I have the v1 and loved them.
I say just go for it, get the v2.
