Sometimes the CD protection just screws up. It especially happens when companies re-release games (especially EAs crap) with the same copy protection structure in the exe, but using a slightly different version, or structure of the protection on the CDs themselves. The 1.70 patch could fix the problem though.
If you decide to use the crack you'll have to search the net for the 1.70 US cracked exe as neither GCW, MegaGames, or Gamefix has that version (though MegaGames has the 1.70 UK version, so you could try it).
You might have better luck using unSafedisc/unSafedisc V2, or Safedisc 2 Cleaner (which you can get at
http://go.to/gamefix) depending on what version of Safedisc EA used THIS time. Hope that helps.
Edit: If I remember correctly they used Safedisc 1.11.000, so unSafedisc 1.5.5 should do the trick, which you can grab here:
